Bob had the awesome privilege of being born into a
loving, Christian home and started going to church at
the ripe old age of two weeks. In 1957, during a revival
led by Dr R. G. Lee, he accepted Christ as his personal
Lord and Savior. Under God’s leadership, as a junior in
high school he dedicated his life to full time Christian
service. It was many years, however, before he allowed
God to take control of his life. While visiting Yosemite
National Park with a dear friend, God wooed Him back
into His arms. Bob began seeking God’s will for his life
and in April 1999, while on a 17 day mission trip to
Guatemala, it became perfectly clear what God had
prepared him for. Sitting on the roof of the two-story
dorm completed in those 17 days, he knew that Casa Para
Niņos Aleluya would be his new home. He began his
fulltime service in September 1999.
In 2002, it appeared that Bob’s season at Casa
Aleluya was finished. In need of restoration and
discipling, he returned to the United States unsure of
his next steps. Within days, Bob had a chance meeting
with a missionary from Mercy Ships and his path became
clear. His confirmation was the organization’s
requirement that, before sailing, he first complete 4
months of discipleship training – this being the very
reason he left Guatemala. With God’s provision, Bob set
out for Texas and the beginning of a new season of
learning, teaching, shaping, and molding. For five years
he served with Mercy Ships. Two years on the Caribbean
Mercy in the area of community development where his
responsibilities put to good use his talents in the area
of farming, conservation and sustainability solutions.
The last three years were spent at the Mercy Ships
International Operations Center working with the
Agriculture Department, with eight months of that time
working with Mercy Teams in Gulfport, Ms, rebuilding his
sister’s home in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
In spring 2007, Bob received his release from Mercy
Ships and returned to Gulfport, seeking God’s will for
his next steps. In early October, he was received like
the prodigal son when visiting at Casa Aleluya. At that
time, while in prayer, Bob was given a verse from
Philemon, "I am sending him, who has my heart, back to
you". He returned to the USA to prepare and within a
month was back at Casa Aleluya as a fulltime staff
member.
Bob feels certain that he is better prepared for
the battle this time "as we battle not against flesh and
blood but against powers and principalities". Besides
helping with construction, maintenance, and hugs for the
400+ children living in the home, Bob says that his
greatest labor will be in the area of prayer. Prayer for
the health and healing and the souls of these children.
He covets your help in this effort and knows that ‘we
can do all things through Christ who strengthens us’.
