Debbie says she has known and loved God for as long
as she can remember. In 1977, Debbie was having marital
problems when she first met Mike and Dottie Clark. Mike
was teaching on the home and family. It was like a
breath of fresh air for Debbie. She and her husband
divorced in 1981. Debbie made it through the rough times
listening to Mike's teachings. Mike and Dottie stood
with Debbie for healing within her family. Debbie told
God that she would always hope for her family, until
Jesus returned if necessary.
Debbie went to work for Mike as secretary of the Church
and Christian school that he ran in Moss Bluff, LA. In
1988, as the Clarks answered the call to serve in
Guatemala, they realized the need for administrative
help in the States to support their efforts abroad.
Debbie immediately agreed to assist, and in her words,
the rest is history. As the organization Build Your
House on the Rock came to life, Debbie was there. What
started out as part-time work for Debbie has grown over
the years corresponding with the growth of Casa Aleluya.
Her now fulltime duties support not only the Clarks, but
500 children, a budget in the healthy six-figure range,
15+ acres of property in Guatemala, a volunteer staff of
17, and several hundred committed sponsors and
affiliated churches. Her work is entirely integral to
the existence of Casa.
Her perseverance and faith in God for the healing of her
family would carry Debbie through the 20 years following
her divorce. At the dawn of a new millennium, Debbie and
her husband were reconciled and remarried on September
5, 2001; it would have been their 32nd wedding
anniversary. On leave in the US at that time, Mike
proudly performed the ceremony. Debbie is truly one of
Casa's best stories of servanthood and commitment.
