After working for two major corporations for more than
10 years, feeling something was missing, Tim opened his
own business. At first the new business seemed to fill
the need, but over time the old feeling returned. Then
the summer of 2004 brought three hurricanes and massive
destruction his way. Unsure of what to do, Tim sold his
business and started out on a road trip to visit friends
in Arizona.
His friends had mentioned a possible trip into
Mexico, so he threw his passport in with his gear. He
cruised into Texas on his motorcycle and found himself
driving towards Mexico. After two weeks on the road, Tim
awoke one morning with a burning in his heart to drive
to Guatemala. Having no idea what he was doing or where
he was going, he drove from Mexico to Antigua,
Guatemala.
Remembering that he had once met a missionary working
in Guatemala, he called a friend in the States to find
out how to find the missionary. Though the missionary
was no longer in country, the mission still exists and
so he contacted them. They met and after a brief
conversation determined that their mission really did
not have any work for Tim, but at the last moment
another mission, just down the road, came to mind – a
home for children.
Tim’s first reaction was ‘no way’ but was talked into
at least having a look at the place. He arrived at Casa
Aleluya, walked through the front gate and was
immediately covered with kids. As he spoke with
leadership, the director said he knew exactly what Tim
was looking for. Highly doubtful, Tim agreed to at least
listen what he had to say. “You’ve been searching for
God”.
Unbelievably, it made perfect sense to Tim after so
many years of missing something. Then and there, at 1:15
in the afternoon on 17 November 2004, Tim accepted
Christ into his heart as his savior. For the first time
in his life he had found clarity.
Tim was put into the 6-9 year old boys’ dorm to help
with the 30 rambunctious boys and soon found himself in
charge of the dorm. His life is a true testament to
God’s ability to order our steps to finding Him, even
when we cannot explain nor understand what we are doing.
