I've plumbed in the water heaters in Vencedores and Buen Pastor, did the gas piping in the baby dorm, helped put the water tank system in Las Estrellitas, helped put the plumbing and pour the slab of Vencedores and Buen Pastor, helped put up an awning or two, done a little electrical in the clinic, painted, wiped a few bottoms and washed a few (hundred) little cups and plates in the baby dorm. Got to lead worship once!!!!!!!!
My first trip to Casa was in August of 2000. I committed to go at the urging of my brother-in-law, unsure of how I would raise the money to make the trip. Not only did God provide that money but I've now made 5 trips over the last two years including one trip with my wife and two children and one with my daughter and me and He's been faithful to provide the way each time.
There have been many "God-sized" things happen while I've been at Casa. For example, the first day of my first trip I learned they needed someone to plumb the baby dorm for gas. (I work as a service mechanic for Alagasco.) Coincidence? On another trip I needed a joint of 1" copper to complete plumbing in the water heaters in Vencedores and Steve Osborn said it would be difficult or impossible to get it. That night my wife watched as Steve walked into worship, he paused and stared in the corner near the men's bathroom, walked a few more steps and turned and stared again at the joint of 1" copper propped up in the corner never noticed by anyone until that moment - the day before it was needed. My next trip I was to plumb in the water heaters for Buen Pastor so I brought 60 feet of 1" copper, thinking I might need 30 feet but determined not to run out. As it turned out I needed approximately 59 feet and a few inches.
I think that it's the almost visibly seeing God's hand on everything that's done at Casa from the worship and Bible times to digging a ditch for a sewer line that has me thinking about my next trip as I leave each time. Not a day has gone by in the last two years that I haven't thought of Casa Para Ninos Aleluya. Nothing other than my relationship with Jesus Christ and my family has so greatly affected my life and I can't wait to see how God will allow me to continue to be a part of His great work there in the future."
